Altona

Ticks all the boxes

Want to go to the beach? Have a BBQ in a park? Or by the lake? Visit a playground? Check out a kid friendly café? Need a play centre or 2? A trampoline park? A beach side market? A dog beach? A pizza? Borrow a book?

Then you might want to head to Altona.

When I first started this page it was very much about helping myself and other mums get out of the house with kids. One of my favourite activities was to meet a friend and have a nice long walk along the beach in Altona. The footpath is the perfect surface and the beach seems to stretch forever. And the walk back always seems a little longer.

As well as a swimming beach and a dog beach along the Esplanade in Altona, there are scattered restaurants on Pier St. Beach House is perfectly set up for young kids with toys to play with, or a trampoline, and their character breakfasts are fun.

Every Tuesday from 9am – 3pm there is a market that runs along Pier St. It’s great for a browse on a sunny day, and it’s location by R J Logan reserve means that you can have a play in the park afterwards.

Also not too far from Altona Beach you can find the Altona Library at 123 Queen St. Open Monday – Saturday http://libraries.hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au/visit-us/altona-library. There is a second Altona library in Altona North on Millers Road.

A little further away from the beach you can find Cherry Lake. It’s a great place for a BBQ, a long walk or a play in the playground.

You can find 2 Play Centres: Play Hut and The Kidz Play Shack. And then there is the Aerodrome (formerly Flip Out Altona), an awesome trampoline park!

The Bay fit Leisure Centre has a little indoor toddler area with a  couple of things to keep the kids entertained.
