      Apollo Bay

      Bring your bucket and spade....

      Apollo Bay

We had the most beautiful long weekend away with some close friends in Apollo Bay.

We love to be outdoors with our 2 curious boys and there was so many wonderful experiences we got to share with them on our trip.

First there is the drive along the Great Ocean Road (if you choose to take the longer scenic route). There are plenty of stops along the way to cater for the small bladders you might be travelling with, and to stretch your legs or grab something to eat. Check out our guide to the Great Ocean Road.

      Marengo Reefs Sanctuary

The highlight of the area for us is definitely the Marengo Reefs Marine Sanctuary. It was truly beautiful. It is a nice spot on the beach, and if you're there when the tide is out, you can find some wonderful creatures in the rock pools. We were lucky enough to find starfish, small fish, crabs and shells while we walked along the rocks. The water is just beautiful I could stay there all day.

Side note: please be careful with kids around the rocks and the water.

      Apollo Bay Foreshore Playground

This playground, located across the road from the main strip of shops was recently upgraded. You can explore the pirate ship, have a go on the awesome flying fox and the swing... well, the beach, the fresh air, the company... we couldn't help but have a go on it ourselves. There is a bakery across the road, pick up some rolls and have a picnic.

      Apollo Bay Beach

Crystal clear water, beautiful soft sand, the boys made friends with a local of the 4-legged variety who loved to catch sticks. Don't forget a bucket and spade!

      Maits Rest Rainforest Walk

This 800m walk on gravel and boardwalk is a great little spot about 20 minutes from Apollo Bay. Breathtakingly beautiful, a good little walk to stretch your legs if you're just passing through

      Kutu Ev

When we visit Apollo Bay, we stay at Kutu Ev which means box house. Able to sleep up to 9 people in 3 bedrooms, with 7 beds. Split the accomodation with a couple of families and you're looking at a cheap getaway with so many of the beautiful attractions in the area being free. There are 2 bathrooms, fully eqipped kitchen and dining and seating for 10. It is a short stroll from the main street and the restaurants nearby. There is a gorgeous outdoor courtyard where you can sit and enjoy in the warmer months and in winter.. the fireplace! You can book via Air B&B. There is no portacot, but there are bunk beds. There are stairs at the front and rear of the property, so please be careful. You can book via this link: https://www.airbnb.com.au/rooms/7121527
