Werribee Zoo

K Rd, Werribee

What we love MOST about Werribee Zoo:

  • Werribee zoo is very interactive- from as early as the car park there are little viewing boxes, at the entry there are beautiful mosaic statues of the animals which are great for photos, there is a sandpit so the kids can have a little dig, there are climbing ropes so the kids have a go at being a monkey, there are chicken on the loose, but a favourite for summer is definitely the hippo water play area

  • Mr 3 loves Madagascar and at Werribee Zoo he can get a good look at his favourite animals from the movie.

  • Wild Nights- our night at wild nights with live music, face painting and water play in the hippo area was one of my favourite Melbourne nights that we have had as a family. We packed a picnic and enjoyed a warm night while the kids danced and played. It has given us a much treasured memory

  • The bus ride. Some of the animals can be seen on the walking trail- the lions, gorillas, monkeys, cheetah and hippos to name a few- but most of the other animals can only be observed on the bus. Now that our boys are a little bit older the bus is a great addition to our day. However- it is 40 minutes in an enclosed space where you can not get off until it is over- I would highly recommend a ratio of one adult per toddler, it can be a high stress situation if tiredness or moodiness creeps in- or if you have a little one that doesn’t like to be restrained in a seatbelt. I would also recommend arriving early for the toddler bus Mon-Fri 11am (excl. school holidays)

  • ranger kids- I … I mean the kids, really love the little examination area where the kids can review their animal patients after dressing up in vet attire. They can fly the emergency helicopter or play with shadow puppets, it is an amazing space which encourages children to use their imagination and engage in some role play.
