There is nothing that hubby and I enjoy more than a date night on our own. But we've realised that a family date is better than no date. So off we went to Medibank Ice House with kids in tow.

Adults were $26 each, Children $13 and under 3s are FREE, But you do have to pay an additional $5 for skate hire per person, and an extra $5 per half hour for each of the seals that, if you're taking young kids, are completely necessary. We used a Buy one Get One Free coupon in the SMALL IDEAS coupon book and saved $26 (the Small Ideas book is only $30, it just paid for itself in one coupon!)

Our boys absolutely loved being pushed around on the ice - and I loved that I had something to hold onto as I skated, because it's been a LONG time since the last time I hit the ice. The seals were pretty easy to push - but I imagine the more your child weighs, the harder it gets.

I wouldn't recommend taking your kids if you don't plan to support them on the ice for their first time skating independently. They do free 15 minute lessons at 7 pm Tuesday, Thursdays and Fridays and more frequently on the weekends. For session times see http://www.icehouse.com.au/images/stories/icehouse_schedule.pdf
